Thanos is one of Marvel’s most powerful villains. He has been around since the beginning of the MCU and he has been portrayed by Josh Brolin.
He is also known as the Mad Titan and he is one of the strongest characters in the entire MCU. In fact, he is considered to be one of the most powerful beings in the universe.
Captain America is one of the most popular Marvel superheroes. He is featured in comic books such as Tales To Astonish, Journey Into Mystery, Strange Tales, World War II, and others.
He was later adapted into a film series starring Chris Evans. In the films, he fights against evil forces and saves the world.
Both characters have had their fair share of battles and both have won. Which one would win in a fight?
Captain America: Biography
Captain America is one of the oldest superheroes from Marvel. He was already created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby in March 1941 and made his first appearance in the comic Captain America Comics #1. In the Marvel Encyclopedia, this living legend of WWII weighs 240 lbs and is 6ft 2 in height. Also, he has blue eyes, blond hair and is based out of New York.
Originally Steve Rogers was rejected by the United States army because of serious health issues. But he wasn’t ready to give up just yet so he volunteered for a project called “Rebirth”. During this project, he was injected with the Super Soldier Serum which made his bodily functions grew to their maximum capacity. As Captain America, he helped to win the war but he also got lost and was frozen. Decades later, he was found and teamed up with the other Avengers which we know from the comics and movies today.
Captain America: Powers & Abilities
When it comes to superpowers, Captain America actually doesn’t have any. His powers aren’t even considered superhuman but as we quote Marvel “the upper-most limits of human perfection in strength, stamina, agility, and durability”.
This makes it hard for Cap to go toe to toe with mutants and gods as he is just a human but at the peak of human potential.
Still, we can’t leave out Captain America’s Vibranium shield in this section. He is incredibly skilled with his shield and can use it both in offence and defence.
Thanos made his first appearance in February 1973 in Iron Man #55 and was created by Jim Starlin and Mike Friedrich. He is part of a race called the Eternals who lived on the planet Titan. According to the Marvel Encyclopedia, he is 6ft 7in and weighs 985 lbs.
In the Marvel Encyclopedia, he is described as “one the strongest beings in existence”. So as an adversary, there won’t be many who could beat him. Thanos was born with the Deviant gene which gave him purple skin, a furrowed chin and a massive body with an incredible amount of strength and intellect.
Thanos: Powers & Abilities
- Superhuman Powers: It has shown that Thanos has the strength of a god and let us also not forget that he has superhuman agility, reflexes and stamina.
- Matter & Energy Manipulation: To the list of powers, we can also add the ability to manipulate matter and energy. He can shoot energy out of his eyes and control matter on an atomic level.
- Magic: Thanos also possesses the power of magic. He is skilled in Black Arts and also has several other mystic capabilities like cursing other heroes or beings.
- Immortality: Because of his immortality, he doesn’t age nor does he die even after getting injured. Thanos is even banned by Death with whom he is obsessed.
What do Captain America and Thanos have in common?
Well, actually not that much. We can’t really compare anything as Captain America doesn’t even have any Superhuman powers but
Captain America vs Thanos: Let’s Compare Some Numbers
Marvel has given almost all their heroes a score which they call a power grid (you can find these on Marvel.com). So these numbers don’t come from us but from Marvel themself.
POWER GRID (7 is the maximum per criteria)
If you have read the power and abilities of Thanos above, you have seen that Thanos is actually immortal and therefore his high score in Durability. So Captain America should come up with a different plan because killing Thanos would simply not work. Thanos can kill Cap though.
Energy is a major weakness of Captain America. He doesn’t have any powers to fall back on next to superhuman reflexes. This makes him very skilled in dodging attacks but he can do very little harm to Thanos. Cap still has his shield but we have seen that Thanos his sword can break Steve Rogers’ shield.
Funny is that Captain America has a higher score when it comes to Fighting Skills than Thanos which we, unfortunately, have to disagree on with Marvel. Thanos is actually incredibly skilled in combat but just refuses to. He has minions to do his groundwork.
POWER GRID (7 is the maximum per criteria)
If we compare the Intelligence of Captain America and Thanos, we also see a big difference. Thanos has a 6 out of 7 while Cap only has a 3 out of 7. This makes sense, Steve is not a genius but Thanos is. He has consumed a lot of knowledge from the universe which he can directly use to his advantage.
Cap is also completely outmatched on Speed and Strength. He is much stronger and faster than the normal human being but Thanos his power level is considered to be the same as a god. It is really painful to see that the first Avenger doesn’t stand a chance against the Mad Titan.
In order to beat Captain America, Thanos wouldn’t even need the Infinity Gauntlet. He can crush Cap in 1 minute and probably even less.
This was never a fair fight in the first place. Thanos outclasses Captain America in every single way. This is also the reason why The Avengers were created because individually most Marvel heroes are actually not that strong.
