Naruto and Sasuke are legendary shinobi from the anime/manga series Naruto and its sequel series Boruto. Both are highly skilled warriors and are the descendants of a literal god making them inhumanly powerful. This being the case, many have wondered who would come out on top in a fight. Sure, these two have clashed before, and it almost always ended in a stalemate. However, now that the Boruto series has been around for a while, circumstances have changed, power levels have fluctuated, and a battle between these two might actually have a decisive winner now. Let’s take a look at the powers, abilities, and skills of these two characters and see who would win in a Naruto vs Sasuke rematch!
Uzumaki Naruto Biography
Uzumaki Naruto was born to Minato Namikaze, the Fourth Hokage of Hidden Leaf Village, and Kushina Uzumaki, the second holder of the Nine-Tails legendary beast. Unfortunately, a conflict with a villain named Tobi would lead to the death of Naruto’s parents and the Nine-Tails being sealed within him while he was still an infant. As a result, Naruto would have a difficult childhood as the entire village treated him poorly and were sworn to never talk about the Nine-Tails that he was host to.
Upon reaching early adolescence, Naruto would begin training as a ninja and learn the powerful and forbidden Multi-Shadow Clone technique. After graduating from the academy and being given the rank of genin, he was placed on Team 7 with teammates Uchiha Sasuke, Haruno Sakura, and their leader Hatake Kakashi. Team 7 would go on to have many adventures such as their confrontation with Zabuza and Haku in the Land of Waves and the deadly Chunin Exams.
These rather simple days would end when Sasuke decided to defect from Hidden Leaf and join the villainous Orochimaru in pursuit of power to avenge his clan. This would lead to the first real battle between Naruto and Sasuke in which Sasuke would win, though he would spare Naruto’s life. This win could be attributed to the fact that Naruto holding back though, since Sasuke was fighting with intent to kill and Naruto wasn’t.
Throughout the rest of the Naruto series, Uzumaki Naruto would grow stronger by training under different masters, channelling the chakra of the Nine-Tails, and unlocking the vast god-like power within himself. Ultimately he would bring the Fourth Shinobi World War to an end by helping to defeat Uchiha Madara, Uchiha Obito, and the god-like being Kaguya. Afterwards, Naruto would have one final battle with Sasuke which ended in a stalemate.
After the Fourth Shinobi World War Uzumaki, Naruto would become Hokage of Hidden Leaf Village, marry his childhood friend Hyuga Hinata, and have two children, Boruto and Himawari. He wouldn’t be involved in many battles during the Boruto series but would prove that he’s still a force to be reckoned with when he did. Despite this, Naruto would still lose one of his greatest assets, Kurama the Nine-Tails. This is because Kkurama was forced to sacrifice himself to save Naruto.
Uchiha Sasuke Biography
Uchiha Sasuke was born into the prestigious Uchiha clan which he took great pride in. However, his entire clan was slain by his older brother Itachi while he was still a young boy. This would darken Sasuke’s outlook on life and set him down the path of revenge. Upon graduating from the Academy and being granted the rank of genin, Sasuke was placed on Team 7 with teammates Uzumaki Naruto, Haruno Sakura, and their leader Hatake Kakashi. They would have many adventures as previously stated, up until Sasuke decided to join the villainous Orochimaru in search of greater power to defeat his brother.
Eventually, Sasuke would betray Orochimaru as well and take Hozuki Suigetsu, Karin, and Jugo with him. Sasuke would call his new group Hebi and would make their only goal to find and kill Itachi. Upon battling his brother, Sasuke would be overpowered but Itachi would ultimately die from a terminal illness he had been dealing with for some time. Upon learning the truth of Itachi’s motives for killing the Uchiha clan, and how much he loved his younger sibling, Sasuke would let go of his hatred for Itachi, and grieve for the loss of his brother.
Going forward Sasuke would shift his hatred for Itachi onto Hidden Leaf Village itself due to its role in forcing Itachi into killing his own clan. This would lead him to ally with Tobi during the Fourth Shinobi World War. Several notable battles would follow such as his clashes with Killer B, the Raikage, and Danzo. He would also have another battle with Naruto that ends in a stalemate. Ultimately Sauke would turn on Tobi and fight to protect the Village of the Hidden Leaf after speaking with a briefly resurrected Itachi. Naruto and Sasuke would once again battle at the climax of the war, and once again it would end in a stalemate though Sasuke would permanently lose an arm.
Sasuke is fairly elusive in the Boruto series that follows as he wanders about the land seeking penance for his crimes despite being pardoned by Naruto who had become the Hokage. He does take part in several notable battles though, such as the battle against Momoshiki, and the battle against Jigen. It would be during this time that Sasuke loses his Rinnegan eye, costing him a significant portion of his power.
Uzumaki Naruto: Powers & Abilities
By the end of the original series, Naruto had god-like power. Though he loses some of this power in the sequel series, Boruto, he’s still amazingly strong. Here is a list of his powers and abilities:
- Chakara manipulation
- Massive chakara reserves
- Superhuman physical attributes
- Nine-Tails transformations (lost)
- Ninjutsu Master
- Senjutsu Master
- Skilled in Taijutsu
- Genjutsu counter
- Master battle tactician
- Unconventional battle tactics
- Chakra absorption
- Chakra nullification
- Chakara healing
Even without the power of the Nine-Tails, Naruto is an extremely powerful fighter with mastery of a wide variety of ninjutsu techniques. His most commonly used techniques are the Rasengan and its many variants, and the Multi-Shadow Clone Technique. He is also an expert in taijutsu hand-to-hand combat and has gone toe-to-toe with many powerful characters such as Momoshiki.
What really sets Naruto apart from other shinobi is his mastery of senjutsu. This allows Naruto to enter powerful states such as Sage Mode, which is a direct upgrade to all his physical attributes and allows him to sense chakra, and Six-Paths Sage Mode, which makes him even more powerful and gives him the ability to fly.
Another advantage that Naruto has that other shinobi lack is his prosthetic arm. Made from special cells from Senju Harashima, this arm can neutralize enemy techniques or even absorb them, making it a powerful combat tool.
Uchiha Sasuke: Powers & Abilities
Sasuke is a top-tier shinobi and, like Naruto, descended from a god, making him one of the most powerful fighters in the world. As a Uchiha, he also gets many special eye powers that make him even more dangerous. Here’s a list of his powers and abilities:
- Chakara manipulation
- Curse of Hatred increases power
- Ninjutsu Master
- Highly skilled in Genjutsu
- Skilled in Taijutsus
- Skilled in Bukijutsu
- Cursed seal (lost)
- Nature transformation
- Six Paths Chakra (lost)
- Rinnegan (lost)
- Master battle tactician
- Expert swordsman
- Shedding decoy
The Sharingan eye skills are what Sasuke is most known for. This special eye allows him to cast powerful illusions with Tsukiyomi, summon the mightly Susanoo, and ignite things in eternal black flames with Amaterasu. It’s also worth mentioning that in addition to its variety of sword attacks, Susanoo also functions as a form of defence and can fire mystical arrows giving Sasuke a very potent long-ranged attack.
Even without his eye powers, Sasuke is a serious threat, capable of incredible ninjutsu techniques such as Chidori, Shadow Clone, and the Great Fireball Technique. His shedding decoy technique is an excellent escape skill that has saved his life on many occasions while confusing his enemy in the process. On top of his ninjutsu skills, Sasuke is also an expert in taijutsu hand-to-hand combat, and swordsmanship. He is also a combat genius that is able to make swift decisions in a fight that can turn the tide of battle in an instant.
Sasuke is also a master summoner and can call forth snakes which he uses to bind opponents or to use as shields. He can also summon hawks which he can use for ariel manoeuvrability. At one point Sasuke was able to summon the legendary snake Manda. Unfortunately, he lost this summon when he was forced to hide inside the beast to avoid Deidara’s suicide attack that went off like a nuclear bomb, killing Manda in the process.
Uzumaki Naruto: Weaknesses
Aside from losing the Nine-Tails, which was a significant downgrade, Naruto doesn’t have a lot of weaknesses. He’s not an especially skilled genjutsu user but is good enough to counter many enemy genjutsu attacks. Naruto also technically only has one arm, but his prosthetic is arguably even better than a normal arm thanks to its previously mentioned abilities.
Naruto’s greatest weakness might actually be his kind heart. Though he and Sasuke have clashed many times, he’s the only one that actually lost one of these encounters, and that was because he was holding back. While Naruto has no problem dispatching most enemies, he does struggle psychologically when fighting those he cares about. This is in stark contrast to the pragmatic Sasuke who can bury his emotions, and fight like a stone-cold killer if needed.
Uchiha Sasuke: Weaknesses
Sasuke experienced a significant downgrade when he lost the Rinnegan and can no longer use the Six Paths Chakara. Also, while missing an arm won’t affect him much in most battles, it will certainly come into play against very high-level opponents. Losing a body part also negatively affects chakra generation and reserves.
Other than this, Sasuke’s weaknesses tend to have more to do with his personality. Due to the betrayal of his brother, Sasuke has a difficult time building and sustaining relationships. This is seen most prominently when he leaves his pregnant wife Sakura to travel the world, and in his poor relationship with his daughter Sarada. Sasuke also has trouble finding a goal to focus on. While Naruto was always focused on becoming the Hokage, Sasuke kept switching between various goals.
Sasuke’s last weakness is that the Curse of Hatred makes him stronger the more hateful he is. This means that since he’s mellowed out quite a bit over the course of the Boruto series, he isn’t getting the benefit of this powerup anymore.
Uchiha Sasuke vs Uzumaki Naruto: Who Would Win in a Fight?
If we were to look at the raw stats of Naruto and Sasuke as provided by the official data books, Sasuke slightly outclasses Naruto in most categories. However, there are two things to consider here. First is that the last data book was published well before Sasuke and Naruto reached the peak of their powers and before they suffered their downgrades in Boruto. Secondly, the data books also don’t account for senjutsu, meaning that Naruto’s greatest abilities aren’t being added to his total score.
Looking at previous battles between these Naruto and Sasuke shows us that they both seem to be evenly matched. Every single battle between them ended in a stalemate aside from the first in which Naruto lost because he held back. This indicates a psychological advantage for Sasuke that we can’t ignore since he could literally bring himself to kill Naruto if he had to, while Naruto likely wouldn’t be able to do the same.
Lastly, there are the downgrades. Naruto loses the Nine-Tails, and Sasuke loses the Rinnegan. This is an interesting situation since the Nine-Tails was never as effective as it could be in battle vs Sasuke anyway since the Sharingan could be used to enter Naruto’s subconscious and suppress the beast’s power, and the Rinnegan could be used to powerup Susanoo by making it a vessel for the chakra of other tailed-beasts. In other words, the Nine-Tails never gave Naruto a decisive advantage over Sasuke.
However, losing the Rinnegan was a massive blow to Sasuke’s overall ability. Without this special eye, Sasuke can’t channel the Six Paths Chakra or use Six Paths Techniques, which is a major disadvantage. He also can’t use his Amenotejikara position swap technique, or his ability to travel through dimensions. Sasuke is seriously nerfed without the Rinnegan though he still remains more powerful than most shinobi.
Basically, this fight comes down to one thing: Naruto still has his Six Paths Techniques while Sasuke doesn’t. Any advantage Sasuke has pretty much gone right out the window because of this. If this were like the early days of Naruto where strategy and out-smarting your opponent was how battles were won, maybe Sasuke could figure something out. However, since “power level whoring” has been the name of the game for nearly two decades, there simply isn’t any way for him to overcome this massive power gap.
So yeah, we’re giving the win to Naruto. On top of the Six Paths Techniques, Naruto also has a lot of other overpowered abilities such as Sage Mode, Multi-Shadow Clone, his special arm, and his healing ability. The only way Sasuke could possibly come out on top in this fight is to trick Naruto into letting down his guard then gank him while he’s not prepared. Sasuke is one of the best shinobi on the face of the planet and a stone-cold killer, so maybe that is an actual possibility, but when your opponent can become a virtual god by popping an OP transformation, it’s also extremely unlikely.
