Venom is one of Marvel’s most popular characters alongside Spider-Man. Carnage, on the other hand, is Venom’s arch-nemesis and as different from Venom as a symbiote can be. Both are immensely powerful beings with abilities that would make them unstoppable. But who would win in a fight?
In this blog post, we will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of both Venom and Carnage to find out which character would triumph if they ever came into conflict…
Venom first appeared in 1984’s Amazing Spider-Man #252 but only as the alien suit on Spider-Man. We had to wait till Amazing Spider-Man #299 in April 1988 for Venom to appear on the grand comic stage. Venom was created by Randy Schueller, Jim Shooter and Mike Zeck.
Venom’s origin is not a completely unique one as many other comic characters have been altered and made over in order to suit their creators’ needs and tastes. The problem with this for Venom is that he became so popular that when his creator decided to make him more comic accurate, fans were disappointed.
Venom’s abilities are due to his symbiote and he is able to do things that no human could ever hope of such as creating webbing or changing shape, but they come at a cost. The alien has complete control over its host which means it can take over their minds and it also feeds off their desires – which can be both good and bad.
Carnage has been around since February 1991 where he made his debut in The Amazing Spider-Man #344 and he was originally created by David Michelinie and Mark Bagley.
Carnage is in fact the spawn of Venom as we often get that question. The symbiote Venom came to rescue Eddie Brock out of prison but left an offspring behind. That spawn bonded with Cletus Kasady who was a convicted serial killer. He had a wound in his hand and the symbiote spawn entered his bloodstream causing him to turn into the red and black symbiote called Carnage.
Later on, the symbiote even bonded with Norman Osborn but in this post we will on talk about the bond between Cletus Kasady and Carnage.
Venom vs Carnage Physical Comparison
If we compare Venom vs Carnage solely on a physical matter. We found that Carnage is 6ft 11 in height and weighs around 190 lbs while Venom is 6ft 3 and weighs 230 lbs according to the Marvel Encyclopedia. With both creatures, the weight and height can vary according to their abilities.
Venom: Powers & Abilities
-Super Strength: Venom is a powerful and strong symbiote. He often exhibits a strength greater than 100-tons of force.
-Shape-Shifting: Venom possesses the ability to shapeshift into almost any form imaginable including weapons or tentacles for attacking people.
– Wall-Crawling & Webbing : Venom can create webbing from his fingers and toes in order to swing through buildings
Carnage: Powers & Abilities
-Super Strength: Carnage possesses superhuman levels of strength and can lift up to 80 tons.
-Shape-Shifting: In the same way as Venom, Carnage has the ability to shape shift into forms such as weapons or tentacles for attacking people.
-Wall-Crawling & Webbing: Just like Venom, Carnage has this ability as well
-Superhuman Durability: Carnage has a more durable exterior than most of Marvel’s characters and can survive punches that would kill others.
Venom vs Carnage Weakness
In terms of powers and abilities, both symbiotes are quite alike. They both own a long list of powers and abilities, if you want to see the full list definitely check out Fandom as they made an amazing overview on those.
When it comes to weaknesses, here it becomes tricky. Like all symbiotes, they are very susceptible to sound and heat. Although, we have seen in the past that the degree of sensitivity can vary quite often. Nevertheless, Venom remains the most vulnerable to sound and fire.
Carnage became invulnerable for sound when he was exposed to the power of the Darkhold. Also, Carnage can better withstand heat as he can create it himself. So Carnage definitely has the upper hand in this.
Power Grid Comparison
We are using the same numbers as Marvel has published in the character’s report. The maximum that a power can reach is 7.
What we expected became through after doing our research. Carnage is in fact stronger than Venom. He outperforms Venom on every level when we compare all the criteria. Carnage is actually even more intelligent.
The main reason that Carnage is actually stronger than Venom is because of its host. Now Eddie Brock might not be the perfect son-in-law but the bond between Carnage and Cletus is just stronger. Cletus is a serial killer with no remorse and symbiotes just loves these kinds of hosts. Cletus has no emotional intelligence so there’s nothing holding both back to cause mayhem and destruction. Eddie has felt remorse from time to time and even became some kind of anti-hero later on as he couldn’t live with himself anymore.
If you want to read more on Carnage vs Venom, there are actually a couple of comics that you can read about the two symbiotes going at each other. You have Venom vs Carnage and Venom: Carnage Unleashed,
They are absolutely amazing stories if you are crazy about the whole symbiote saga and soon as well we will be able to see both on the big screen in Venom: Let There Be Carnage with 2 of my favourite actors Tom Hardy and Woody Harrelson. We are so psyched for that movie, we just can’t wait!
